How to Cope When Space is Limited…..

IMG_0895_2

Having consciously ‘downsized’ everything in my life ….. apartment, possessions including wardrobe items, furniture pieces and ‘stuff’ that I simply do not need…. My sneakers are stored happily together in a cane box that stacks. In the cane boxes underneath are evening bags that I don’t use as often as I need my sneakers. Recent epiphany ….. discard and learn to stack. Love to hear your clever storage solutions.

What Do I Love…?

Styling it up at Thistle Hill Polkobin

Fabulous weekend at Thistle Hill Guest House Pokolbin for Anthony and Tom, they wanted a simple but lush atmosphere. Buckets of white roses and oak leaves adorned their celebration. Congratulations … as featured in Cosmopolitan Bride issue 46 out today.

TIP: Go simple and ample have a lot of one thing. The guys added their Japonais theme with their hand made origami cranes which worked a treat as I could move them around for each event with the rose bouquets.

What’s On? Opera

turandot-hosh-2016-1280x320

Puccini’s Turindot on Sydney Harbour, Fleet Steps, Mrs Macquaries Point, March 24-April 24 2016
Handa opera presents Turindot , remember drop the last “T from your pronunciation, a story of a death-marked love, amazing costumes, operatic singing voices in a “pop-up” Opera House. With the light filled city skyline as the backdrop your soul will stir when “Nessun dorma” is performed.

What to Wear? the venue is all weather, on opening night there was a range from way too casual to the ‘official party’ glam. I would choose layers as it can become cool, my pick is tapered cropped black satin Trouser, court suede Shoe, white dinner Shirt and an evening Trench or Opera Jacket.

TIP. Arrive early to soak up the atmosphere in the lantern lit areas, eat and enjoy a drink or two with the spectacular Sydney Harbour and twinkling skyline as the back drop.

Wardrobe Resolutions for 2014

Follow these simple resolutions and your  Wardrobe will be “your very own boutique”, it  will always support you an never let you down.

1.I will keep my wardrobe ‘under control’ and always organised.

2.I will only hang clothes in my wardrobe that are clean, pressed, no-snaggs and not in need of repair.

3.I will hang my clothes in ‘type’ eg. t-shirts with t-shirts, tailored shirts with tailored shirts, evening tops with evening tops and so on…

4.I will hang my clothes in ‘colour ‘ order from white to darkest.

5. I will only hang  one season at a time. Summer with summer… Ski gear stored with Ski gear and so on….

6.I will hang my beautiful clothes on appropriate hangers ie Everyday hangers for shirts and tops, padded hangers for shirts, tops and knits, knitwear hangers for ‘special’ and hard to hang pieces ….skirts on skirt hangers, trousers on trouser hangers, jackets on jacket hangers.

7.I will never ever use or have wire hangers in my wardrobe – I respect my wardrobe way too much.

8. I will not ‘over-stuff’ my wardrobe and have ‘space’ between my clothes.  When I add a new piece I will donate or relegate a piece.

9.I will store my shoes in ‘pairs’ with their ‘toes’ out, that is ‘looking at me’. My shoes will be clean and repaired- if necessary- before they are put back in my wardrobe.

10.I will store my Hats – crowns stuffed with tissue paper – in boxes because I may want to wear them again.

TIPS and TRICKS Print these points and adhere in your wardrobe to remind you how to look and feel fabulous every day.

Spring Summer Trends for Her

The season is changing, the temp is rising and you hear yourself say “What Will I Wear?”  Firstly remove all the high winter pieces from your wardrobe, review what worked last year and  read on to find out the trends and ‘must have’ looks for Spring Summer 2013.

TRENDS  The look is  paired down, understated, big, chic, printed and embellished! wear styles that suit you and keep it simple with fabulous accessories – messenger bag, pointy toe heels. The silhouette is oversized, from major heels, pointy toes, clutch bags to inflated cocoon coats.

Mono Chromeblack and white stripes, graphic prints, checks and plaid – big for next winter also – and cutouts give stylish staples a bold spin. There are loads of spots, stripes and prints to choose from. Go to Simona  they are brilliant at this look.

White Out – go all white with white jeans, shorts, knitwear, shirting and the essential white jacket. To ease into all white you can add some black separates, remember  “When in doubt, wear black and white.”

Ladylike Chic – high necks, embellished collars, cardigans and knee length skirts are  the shapes of this preppy look. In silks and cashmere, layer luxurious soft and simple pieces in a soft palette of gelato. A la Lady Dianna Spencer.

Man Style –  a great look from winter, add brogues or loafers and a classic cut blazer to give a tailored look. The boyfriend jean is a must and wear a shirt with a tie or button up to collar stand add a pocket handkerchief

Athletic Look – sporty cuts, long legs, hoodies and tennis dress shapes in hi-tech fabrics with pops of neon colour. Wear with sport inspired shoes.

TEXTURE Embellished and bejewelled accessories fit for a queen, texture  your look add brocade, sequins, pearls, jewelled and embossed fabrics. Animal Print –  this season appears with a twist, two prints mixed in neutrals and black and white some clever designers have included colour in their animal print take a look at  Arthur Galan. Lace and cutout fabrics to give yummy layered texture. Sheer is still on the fashion radar it looks best worn as an over pieces, love the skirts. Flower Power, floral prints are a go-go. Denim, denim and more denim, the whisper is you can wear denim with denim now! Jeans are blue, white, coloured, stretch, shiny, ripped, skinny and baggy. Add a denim shirt to layer now and wear solo later in the season.

COLOUR  Blue is literally the coolest colour, blue is the hue you need in your life… fifty shades of blue. White again! Black and White, Blue denim/Chambray, Orange, Green and Yellow is the new winner, hard to wear but if you get it right it looks very ‘now.’

Dressing Mother of the Bride – Part 2

Decide on the colour you want to wear. There are a load of judgements on black, white and cream (can’t upstage the bride) depending on the theme and time of the wedding, whatever suits you best is always the right colour. Be careful when choosing if you don’t want to ‘stand-out’, don’t go too bright. Colour is so very important, a dear friend of mine cheekily told me “when you are the mother of the groom you wear beige and shut up!” Sage advise, having said this as a personal style preference I do like pastel tones for mother

of the bride and groom. My own mother was stunning in a pale pink silk dress and self covered shoes. The best mothers of the bride and groom dresses compliment their own colouring and don’t clash with the bridal party. For a ‘What Colour Will I Wear?’ shopping and wardrobe guide go to www.whatwilliwear. com.au/wcwiw/ this system provides the best colour and colour tones for you, calculated by your eye colour, skin tone and hair colour.

Once you have your dress or outfit, a couple of other tips to help you make the day as comfortable and glamorous as possible are your accessories. You will or should have your make-up done professionally with the bridal party, think about tears. If you can make it through the ceremony, aisle walking and vows just wait for the bridal waltz – insist on industrial strength waterproof mascara!

A little clutch covered in the same or similar fabric, metallic or quilted, loads to choose from now should have enough room for a hanky or two, glasses if required a small mirror,

your lipstick and a miniature bottle of your perfume. Rock your heels for the ceremony and for as long as you can into the reception, when the dancing starts change into a ‘safer’ dancing shoe. The trend now when wearing a pastel or a light shade outfit is to wear ‘nude’ shoe. Katherine Middleton is a big fan of these; they do lengthen the leg and are most appropriate.

The mother of the bride should talk to the mother of the groom after she has selected her dress, telling her the formality of the function and give her an idea of the colours. The groom’s mother should wear a colour that suits her keeping in mind the bridesmaids and mothers choice.

If you can negotiate this with ease well done you! Obviously you deserve to hold a leading role in a milestone in your families’ life.
